Colloquially referred to as a root canal, a root canal treatment is an endodontic therapy that our dentist may recommend if decay or damage in a patient’s mouth has reached their tooth pulp and nerves. Once infection and disease has reached past the outer layer of enamel, the affected tooth becomes more susceptible to death and may need to be extracted. Root canal therapy helps restore the health of the tooth before that occurs.
During your root canal treatment, our team will carefully remove the infected or damaged tissue from inside the tooth root, thoroughly clean the remaining tooth to prevent further infection, and fill the tooth with a medicated material. We will finish the procedure by placing a dental crown or other dental restoration over the tooth to restore its original shape and structure and to protect it from future harm. From beginning to end, the entire treatment can be completed in one or two comfortable visits to our office.
